The Top 8 Awesomely Fun Things to Do in Ponce

Ponce is also known as La Perla del Sur and Seorial City. It is the island’s second-most populous city, trailing only the capital of San Juan. I was raised in Peuelas, a little town west of Ponce. My youth included visits to Ponce’s colonial center, historical attractions, and museums. In this essay, I’ll discuss the top 8 activities to do in Ponce, Puerto Rico:

  1. Ponce Art Museum

When visiting the city, the Ponce Art Museum is a must-see. It is Puerto Rico’s most prestigious museum and one of the most well-known in the Caribbean. It houses the Flaming June, a well-known Victorian picture, as well as a permanent collection of 4,500 artefacts. When planning your vacation, check the Ponce Art Museum’s website because this attraction is subject to closure for repairs.

  1. Plaza Las Delicias

One of the most enjoyable things to do in Ponce is to visit the main square. Historic sites, museums, hotels, a casino, restaurants, and local businesses may all be in the heart of the historic district. Its lovely colonial architecture, gardens, and fountains will enchant you. At night, you can go to one of the many bars and nightclubs that surround the area.

  1. Parque de Bombas

This was Puerto Rico’s first fire station and is today Ponce’s most visited and recognised monument, located in the historic city centre. The building, which is painted with striking red and black stripes, makes for an excellent photograph. It houses a fireman museum as well as the local tourist information centre.

  1. Cruceta El Vigía

Cruceta El Viga offers a panoramic view of Puerto Rico’s south coast. This 100-foot-tall cross features an observation platform with a view of the Caribbean Sea that may be reached via a glass lift. It also provides overhead views of local landmarks. On the first level, there is a new restaurant with spectacular views.

  1. Castillo Serrallés

This magnificent Spanish Revival 1930s estate perched on a hill with stunning views is well worth a visit. The historic estate of the Serrallés family, who founded the Don Q distillery, now houses a museum and lovely gardens with views of the city. Because the castle is frequently leased for events, you might see a wedding or a quinceaera.

  1. La Guancha boardwalk

La Guancha is an excellent choice for families. It contains a number of restaurants and bars, as well as a coastal boardwalk, beach access, many playgrounds for children, and live entertainment. Beautiful sunsets may be seen from the boardwalk, and don’t forget to feed the pelicans sardines. The boardwalk was destroyed by Hurricane Maria. La Guancha is only functional.

  1. Catedral Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which dates back more than 300 years, is an essential component of Ponce’s culture. The cathedral is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and mixes French neoclassical, colonial, and Gothic architecture. Aside from the wonderful building, there is stained glass art, statues, and a superb pipe organ. It’s in the heart of Plaza Las Delicias, close behind Parque de Bombas.

  1. local brewery

Papa Rupe Brewing is a must-visit for craft beer enthusiasts. This brewery transports you to the late 1800s. It is housed in a historic home before owned by Thomas Armstrong Toro, a pivotal role in the establishment of Ponce’s Golden Age. It also provides an original gourmet experience with a beer-based food menu, 20 beers on tap, and a history and arts-loving community.
